Pinus canariensis - Canary Island Pine

Pinus canariensis: Pinus refers to the Latin name of P. pinea; canariensis, from the Canary Islands.

A tall and narrow, fast growing medium-sized pine.
Long needles (9-12" long) are held in fascicles of 3 and can remain on the tree for two years, giving a shaggy effect.
Pollen cones. Female cones are oblong, 4-8" long.
Dark red to grayish brown irregularly fissured bark. Compare to P. pinea
New foliage can sprout directly from the trunk Note that new needles are singly held, rather than in fascicles.
